5th Edition Spin On Tieflings, called Odius on Legon
An Odius is a spin on the Tiefling, where the “evil” blood that runs in their veins makes them, well, evil. Most born to this affliction are either cast out, sent to orphanages of sorts, sold to cults and factions or worse yet; killed. It is a random “DNA” event at conception, and the birth will be brutally hard. Bottom line is the vast majority of them are brought into a faction and are used for nefarious purposes.
Their origins are shrouded in mystery, but the legend Esmershard of Camerondale has this to say about them.
“Their exact origins are unknown. But, somewhere in their past, there was a family /blood line who attempted magic or attempted to enhance themselves. As most magic and nefarious attempts with elemental magic goes, it went wrong. They were cursed, blood poisoned with evil and the elemental retaliation. A Demi-God Finster took it upon himself to weave this into the fabric of procreation itself using his own life force; blood. Though the creatures can be rare, it seems there are far too many of them to have stuck with a single lineage, meaning; they spread this to multiple families, multiple bloodlines and a demi-god planning something nefarious…”
Master Alchemist, Historian for Camerondale: Esmershard
To really dive into this creature, its most defining trait is the sex of the Odius. They are almost different monsters, but for this explanation; we will keep them all on one page. We will start off with the overall description and then move onto the other sexes.
Some Information on the Odius, inherited traits
Both sexes almost always wear plate armor, with some exceptions when more stealth is required. then reduce it to studded armor (-3 AC). It is specially made for their tale and unique physique. They are immune to poison attacks and only take half damage with fire. The female has an added bonus with the long tail, in certain circumstances it can react to an attack or movement by the PC’s. Ranging from knocking weapons out of hands, strangling someone at the arm, leg or even throat and many times in a protection mode from an attack.
Again sex has big differences. Both sexes are known for head-butting with their horns when they are within 5-10 feet of an enemy. It is only a +3 to hit but the damage is 2d6+2 and the opponent has to make a constitution save from becoming prone with such a violent hit. They can both bullrush, explained below, while the female would have much less chance of success than the male due to the STR modifiers and size.
One oddity for their description, every 3rd Tiefling will have cloven foot, and backwards legs similar to a Satyr. It is as random as their eye color or skin color.
The Male Odius, stronger, bigger and dumber
A male Odius has darker green or blue skin. His eyes range from red to black. They are usually around 6 feet in height and weigh roughly 200 lbs. They have a shorter tail that just hits the ground. It is long enough to help them keep balance too. For a male, they get a +2 in STR, -2 INT. They can have a good brute force and a charge attack that can cause little damage but make multiple players prone if they don’t make their DEX save; good when in battle with multiple allies and also good for a disengage and dash, if they need to flee. They are used for the, less than quieter, assassinations or if chaos is needed to be created.
The males prefer long swords, assassin blades and the like; they also get multi-attacks (2/round). Melee Weapon Attacks which are usually a blade larger than a short sword, smaller than a great sword, gets +5 to hit and causes (1d10+3 damage). They enjoy melee combat and would not hesitate to pummel an opponent if the weapon was not available. Their punch is 1d4+2 but they can double their attacks, meaning they will have (4) attempts at punching their opponent per round.
The Female Odius, Smaller, smarter and cunning
A female Odius is thinner and a bit less hearty as the male. They stand about 5’10” and weigh around 140 lbs. Their skin can range from an orange-red to an aquatic green of sorts; usually lighter in color than their male counterparts. Their eyes are always lighter, some matching the skin color of the orange-red ranging all the way to pure white. They have very long tails, ranging from 3 1/2 to 5 feet in length; they are very responsive and dexterous. The female gets -2 in CON, but a +2 in INT. The woman Odius likes to have control at all times so her first instinct is to grapple, disarm, prone there opponents. They will use their tail, a grappling whip or other means to make that happen. When it has to be more of a quieter, or need of infiltration that will require smarts, the female is used.
The female tries to be a bit more stealthy, though neither of the sexes have good dexterity due to their body features; they get multi-attacks (2/round). The most common weapon for them would be pro daggers, retractable blades and ones similar to a blackjack (+5 to hit, 1d4+3 damage). They like to be in control, so a whip or net of sorts would be used to grapple or prone an enemy (DC 15 for DEX). They fight with much more strategy in mind, using blinding dust, smoke potions and poisons (generally a DC15 for DEX, or DC15 for constitution if DEX fails); they will use them for their movement to again, have their opponents prone or incapacitated. If the grapple is successful, they do not have to roll to hit, they will just do the weapons damage. They can also use their tale and choke their opponent. The PC must make a check on constitution every round to avoid it or until it is gone. Once they fail it, they have their constitution modifier plus 1 round to get them to stop, otherwise they will die or go completely unconscious for the remainder of the battle.
The Legion Tiefling, Hexblood Personified
Very few are hit with the trait of being a legion. These Tieflings are bigger and stronger. Not to mention, switch foot (like a satyr) and an extended tail. Almost every Legion is female.
They have added strength +1 and constitution +1 and are always equipped with a Legion Thorn Whip.
